SPACE-A

Air Force Air Mobility Command (AMC) does an amazing job at supplying critical equipment our warfighters stationed all over the world.  Someone sometime ago on a transport mission must have thought, "Hey, we have some extra space in here and it would be cool to fit some military families in the extra space on our way to Hawaii".  Thus, the idea behind Space-A flights was born!

COVID-19 Operations

Memo Published 15 March Updated Exemption Categories to Space-A COVID Travel Restrictions

 

The following categories remain eligible:

- Category I travelers: Emergency Leave Unfunded Travel. Transportation by the most expeditious routing only for bona fide immediate family emergencies, (items 1 – 6)

 

- Category IV travelers: Unaccompanied EML (only items 26 and 27)

 

- Category VI travelers: Miscellaneous (only items 42 and 46)

 

All other categories and sub groupings not stated still remain ineligible such as Accompanied EML, Ordinary Leave, P-TDY, Foreign Mil, ROTC, Retired members for casual travel,

Normal Operations

Who is normally eligible?

-  Service members, retirees, and their families

(Other exceptions exist for reservists and national guardsmen and family)

Note you are given a Category Code that determines your priority:

  • Category I: Emergency Leave Unfunded Travel  (Death in the family)

  • Category II: Accompanied Environmental and Morale Leave (EML)

  • Category III: Ordinary Leave, Relatives, House Hunting PTDY, Medal of Honor Holders and Foreign Military

  • Category IV: Unaccompanied EML

  • Category V: PTDM (Non-House Hunting), Students, Dependents, Post Deployment/Mobilization Respite Absence and Others

  • Category VI: Retired, Dependents, Reserve, ROTC, Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program, and Civil Engineer Corps members

How much does it cost?

-  FREE! (Usually).  Some Air Mobility Command passenger terminals require a small fee

Sounds too good to be true, what's the catch?

-  There is NO guarantee that you will be given a seat.  Reservations are not taken, you have to register at the AMC passenger terminal to obtain a seat
